Who is Irene?
Well, this is a very good question! When I think about who “Irene” is, I am struck by all of the roles I’ve had and parts I’ve played.
I did not know I was neurodivergent until many decades into my life, despite raising two neurodivergent kids (now young adults). So, while I sometimes feel late to the game, I am so thankful to have clarity in knowing myself, understanding why I did the things, and a passion to provide support for others who can relate to growing up feeling misunderstood and invalidated.
Life is not easy for anyone, and it can be especially difficult, even physically painful, for those of us who did not understand that, despite our best efforts, we were not able to make it work in a world that was absolutely not created with our brain types in mind.
At A Curious Unicorn Counseling, I am a neurodivergent therapist who is extremely passionate about helping others realize how amazing they truly are. I spent decades working with non-neurodivergent therapists, and any lack of progress was placed on me as my fault, for being too lazy, or not taking it seriously, etc.
As soon as I began working with a neurodivergent therapist, the amount of progress I began to experience was incredible! Being seen and validated as a person and for my lived experiences showed me I wasn’t broken, too much, or not enough. I am exactly who I am supposed to be.
Because of this progress and the positive impact I’ve experienced, I set out to become a therapist specializing in working with neurodivergent clients.
You may have a diagnosis. You may not. You may be self-diagnosed. If you have experienced a life full of misunderstandings, “wrong” choices, bad relationships, or whatnot, let’s connect. Life shouldn’t be this hard. And it doesn’t have to be.
